At least 9 sufferers have been killed when a fireplace broke out at a hospital in northern Iran, state media reported Tuesday.
The blaze began at 1:30 a.m. native time (10 p.m. GMT) at Qaem Hospital within the metropolis of Rasht, some 330 kilometers (about 205 miles) northwest of the capital Tehran, state TV stated, leaving six girls and three males useless.
Chief of the town hearth division, Shahram Momeni, stated on state TV that an electrical quick circuit within the basement – which harbors the intensive care unit – malfunctioned, inflicting the hearth.
Momeni stated emergency staff rescued greater than 140 individuals, sufferers and hospital employees, after being trapped due to the smoke, and that 120 of them have been hospitalized in different medical services. He added that an investigation has been ordered.
A video posted on-line appeared to indicate smoke billowing from the hospital in the midst of the night time.
Iranian media often report on fires in hospitals and clinics which are primarily blamed on technical points.
In 2020, an explosion from a fuel leak in a medical clinic in northern Tehran killed 19 individuals.
