Five US service members lacking after their helicopter crashed this week in southern California have been confirmed lifeless, the US Marine Corps stated Thursday.

The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter crashed Tuesday whereas flying from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the navy stated.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share the loss of five outstanding Marines from 3d Marine Aircraft Wing and the ‘Flying Tigers’ while conducting a training flight,” Major General Michael Borgschulte, commander of the Third Marine Aircraft Wing, stated in a press release.

The Marine Corps stated efforts to get well the stays of the crash victims have begun and an investigation is underway.

President Joe Biden stated he was “heartbroken” on the lack of the service members.

“We extend our deepest condolences to their families, their squadron, and the US Marine Corps as we grieve the loss of five of our nation’s finest warriors,” the president stated in a press release.

“Today, as we mourn this profound loss, we honor their selfless service and ultimate sacrifice — and reaffirm the sacred obligation we bear to all those who wear the uniform and their families.”

There have been a collection of accidents involving US navy plane over the previous 12 months, together with the crash of a V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor plane off the coast of Japan in late November that left eight airmen lifeless.

Five American service members have been killed when a helicopter crashed into the Mediterranean throughout a coaching train earlier the identical month, whereas one other Osprey crash in Australia left three Marines lifeless in August.
