The US State Department paused almost all overseas support applications for 90 days, with exceptions granted for army help to Israel and Egypt, in response to a leaked diplomatic cable cited by a number of experiences Friday.
The directive, reportedly signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, requires all diplomatic and consular posts to difficulty “stop-work orders” for many current overseas help applications, in response to Politico, which obtained the inner memo.
The freeze is a part of President Donald Trump‘s govt order earlier this week, which known as for a 90-day evaluate of overseas support spending to evaluate its alignment with US overseas coverage priorities.
While the memo outlines exceptions for Israel and Egypt, which yearly obtain $3.3 billion and $1.3 billion in overseas army financing, respectively, support to different key US allies, together with Ukraine, Jordan and Taiwan, is reportedly affected.
