The dying toll from a lethal earthquake that hit Morocco earlier this month has neared 3,000, the federal government stated Wednesday.
“There is an update on the death toll, the martyrs’ number has risen to 2,960,” authorities spokesman Mustapha Baitas advised journalists.
The final replace by authorities on Sept. 13 stated the dying toll was 2,946.
Injuries from the quake stood at 6,125, along with large-scale harm to buildings and infrastructure, in response to the most recent replace by the Interior Ministry.
The Moroccan Royal Court stated 50,000 homes have fully or partially collapsed from the tremor.
“Works in the fields continue, counting the collapsed buildings is carried out in coordination between relevant authorities,” stated Baitas.
The quake which hit the central area Sept. 8, was the strongest to hit the North African nation in a century, in response to Morocco’s National Geophysical Institute.
