A membership card discovered by an historian within the Netherlands confirmed the late Dutch Prince Bernhard was a member of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi social gathering, in line with media studies.
Dutch historian Flip Maarschalkerweerd wrote in his ebook, De achterblijvers, which was revealed Wednesday, that he discovered Prince Bernhard zur Lippe-Biesterfeld’s unique membership card for the Nazi social gathering.
Maarschalkerweerd, who’s the previous director of the Royal House Archives, stated he discovered the cardboard within the prince’s non-public archives at Soestdijk Palace, the native NL Times reported.
Prince Bernhard, who was a member of a German royal household and engaged to Dutch Princess Juliana in 1936, has all the time denied that he was a member of the Nazi social gathering.
Juliana grew to become queen of the Netherlands in 1948 and was on the throne till she abdicated in 1980.
“I can declare with my hand on the Bible: I was never a Nazi. I never paid for a party membership. I never had a membership card,” Bernhard stated earlier than his dying, stated the report.
Maarschalkerweerd informed the NRC newspaper that he was shocked to search out the cardboard and correspondence about terminating it.
“Those were German pieces, he said. “You would count on them to be in Germany.”
Another historian, Gerard Aalders, expressed his satisfaction in regards to the unveiling of the unique card.
“For me personally, this is very nice to hear,” he stated.
Dutch King Willem-Alexander had allowed Maarschalkerweerd to entry all paperwork within the Royal House Archives associated to World War II.
