The Turkish parliament on Wednesday prolonged the mandate of Turkish naval forces within the Gulf of Aden, Somali territorial waters, the Arabian Sea, and adjoining areas for an additional 12 months.
A presidential decree handed by the nation’s parliament tells how UN Security Council resolutions had been taken towards piracy and armed theft within the areas from 2008 to 2021.
“By deploying naval elements of the Turkish Armed Forces, effective measures have been taken to ensure the security of Turkish-flagged and Türkiye-related commercial ships navigating in the region. Active participation has been undertaken in joint operations against maritime piracy, armed robbery, and terrorism at sea, conducted by the international community.”
The decree additionally burdened Türkiye’s dedication to enhancing worldwide cooperation in combating maritime piracy and armed theft.
It acknowledged that Türkiye has constantly supported efforts for this and has actively participated in initiatives inside the UN, NATO, the EU, and the International Maritime Organization.
