A group of sneakers that famous person Michael Jordan wore as he and the Chicago Bulls received six NBA championships has fetched $8 million at public sale, setting a brand new document for game-worn sneakers, Sotheby’s mentioned.

The six Air Jordan footwear – one apiece from the final video games of the 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998 championship collection – bought Friday. Sotheby’s dubbed it the “Dynasty Collection.”

“Serving as both a reminder of Michael Jordan’s lasting impact on the world and a tangible expression of his recognized legendary status, its significance is further validated by this monumental result,” Brahm Wachter of Sotheby’s mentioned in a press release. Wachter oversees fashionable collectibles for the public sale home.

Sotheby’s did not establish the customer and described the vendor solely as “a private American collector” who obtained them from a longtime Bulls government.

Jordan first gave a sneaker to the manager after the championship-winning sport in 1991 and continued the custom afterward, based on Sotheby’s. The public sale lot included images of Jordan carrying a single shoe as he celebrated the 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1998 wins.

A five-time league MVP and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Jordan was so singular a participant that then-NBA Commissioner David Stern in 1992 referred to as him “the standard by which basketball excellence is measured.” The NBA renamed its MVP trophy for Jordan in 2022.

He additionally helped shake up the athletic shoe business and supercharge sneaker tradition by teaming up with Nike to create Air Jordans within the mid-Nineteen Eighties.

The pair he wore within the second sport of the 1998 NBA Finals was bought by Sotheby’s final April for $2.2 million, a document for a pair of sneakers.

The highest public sale value for any Jordan memorabilia was $10.1 million for his jersey from the primary sport at that collection, based on Sotheby’s, which bought it 2022.
