At least 1 killed in shootout at Russia-Abkhazia border

At least one individual is lifeless and a number of other others wounded following a shootout Sunday at a Russian police checkpoint alongside the border between Russia’s Krasnodar Krai area and Georgia’s breakaway area of Abkhazia.

The capturing reportedly occurred on the Psou checkpoint and safety forces are looking for the suspects.

A minor is reportedly among the many wounded.

Robert Kiut, the Interior Minister of the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia, advised the Russian news company Ria-Novosti that there had been an armed battle on the border with Russia.

Kiut famous that one individual died in consequence and that these concerned have been residents of Abkhazia.

In 2008, a five-day battle broke out between Georgia and Russia over the breakaway areas of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Georgia finally misplaced management of each areas and Russia later acknowledged them as unbiased states, resulting in Tbilisi reducing off diplomatic relations with Moscow. Both areas stay internationally acknowledged Georgian territories.
