Nearly 200 passengers reportedly went lacking Friday after a ship capsized in Nigeria, officers and native residents stated.
The boat carrying passengers, together with ladies, merchants, and farmers, capsized alongside the Dambo-Ebuchi stretch of River Niger in north-central Niger State, native residents instructed Anadolu.
Ibrahim Musa, a resident and dealer, stated many of the passengers boarded the boat to disembark at Ebuchi.
“Many of them were going to the market,” he instructed Anadolu.
National Inland Waterway Authority spokesman Suleiman Makama stated a search and rescue operation was underway.
“We have deployed rescue workers to the scene,” he instructed Anadolu by telephone.
