NASA has introduced that the return of two U.S. astronauts stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS) has been delayed till at the least March 2025. This new setback means the astronauts won’t be able to return to Earth on the initially deliberate date.
Experienced astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams arrived on the ISS in June aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, intending to remain for under eight days. However, points with Starliner’s propulsion system pressured NASA to utterly revise their return plans.
After weeks of intensive testing on the Starliner, NASA determined to return the spacecraft to Earth with out crew. Wilmore and Williams have been scheduled to return with SpaceX’s Crew-9 mission.
DELAYED TO MARCH 2025
The Crew-9 staff arrived on the ISS in late September, leaving two empty seats for Wilmore and Williams. The preliminary plan had been for 4 astronauts to return to Earth in February 2025. However, NASA has now introduced that the Crew-10 mission will probably be delayed till at the least March 2025, that means that Wilmore and Williams will keep on the ISS longer for the crew handover course of.
NASA’s weblog said, “This change allows NASA and SpaceX teams time to complete preparations for a new Dragon spacecraft.”
As a consequence, Wilmore and Williams will spend greater than 9 months in area, far longer than their initially deliberate eight-day mission. SpaceX, based by Elon Musk, conducts common flights to convey ISS crews again to Earth each six months.
