China on Tuesday rejected US President Donald Trump‘s new menace of imposing one other 50% obligation on Chinese imports, saying it “will fight till the end,” state news company Xinhua reported.
The Commerce Ministry stated Beijing “firmly opposes” any strikes to extend tariffs by Washington and vowed to take countermeasures to safeguard its rights.
“China will fight till the end if the U.S. side is bent on going down the wrong path,” the ministry stated, including that the US tariff escalation menace towards China compounds its mistake and additional exposes its nature of “blackmail,” which China won’t ever settle for.
“The US so-called ‘reciprocal tariffs’ against China are groundless and a typical practice of unilateral bullying,” it stated, arguing that China’s countermeasures adopted had been official actions aimed toward defending its sovereignty, safety, and improvement pursuits, in addition to sustaining a standard worldwide commerce order.
Trump on Monday threatened to impose further 50% tariffs on China on high of the imposed 34% “reciprocal” tariffs introduced final week, if Beijing’s choice to match the 34% duties on US imports was not reversed.
Besides the reciprocal tariffs, the US president already put in place a 20% levy on Chinese items.
Trump has introduced sweeping tariffs, starting from 10% to 50%, on a number of nations, roiling international markets.
