Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday expressed concern concerning the rising menace of a 3rd world struggle, pointing to the escalating conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East as harmful flashpoints.
“There is a lot of potential for conflict now,” Putin said in a speech at the St. Petersburg forum. “We are involved about the opportunity of a world struggle. All conflicts should be resolved by peaceable means.”
He criticized NATO for increasing eastward, saying the alliance continues to ignore Russia’s safety pursuits. “This is yet one more vestige of the West’s neocolonial coverage,” he claimed.
Putin additionally stated US President Donald Trump had pledged to help Russia’s request to ensure the security of its personnel at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility.
Regarding the Middle East, Putin commented on Israel’s reported menace to assassinate Ali Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s supreme chief, saying: “I hope this stays simply rhetoric.”
Earlier on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov advised Sky News on the Constantine Palace in Saint Petersburg on Friday that regime change in Iran is “unacceptable,” warning that such a transfer would incite “extremist moods” within the nation.
“Those who are speaking about (killing Khamenei), they should keep it in mind. They will open Pandora’s box,” Peskov warned.
