China is “dissatisfied” with the choice of the Dutch authorities to increase export controls on ASML chipmaking tools, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated in an announcement on Sunday.

On Friday, the Dutch authorities stated it could increase export licensing necessities for ASML’s 1970i and 1980i DUV (Deep Ultraviolet) immersion lithography instruments, aligning its guidelines with export restrictions on these machines unilaterally imposed by the United States final 12 months.

Beijing has repeatedly criticized Washington’s technique of pressuring allies just like the Netherlands and Japan to hitch export controls concentrating on Chinese entry to cutting-edge chips and chipmaking tools.

“In recent years, to maintain its global hegemony, the U.S. has continued to … coerce certain countries to tighten export control measures for semiconductors and (related) equipment … China is resolutely opposed to this,” China’s commerce ministry stated in response to the Dutch authorities’s announcement on Friday.

The ministry added that the Dutch aspect mustn’t abuse export controls, keep away from measures that injury Sino-Dutch cooperation in semiconductors and safeguard the “common interests of Chinese and Dutch enterprises.”

U.S. lobbying has successfully stopped ASML, the world’s largest chipmaking tools vendor, from exporting its most superior lithography techniques to China.

Dutch Trade Minister Reinette Klever stated on Friday the choice was made “for our safety.”
