EU financial institutions fund illegal Jewish settlements

Some 776 monetary establishments within the European Union despatched billions of {dollars} for the development of unlawful Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian territories, a nongovernmental group (NGO) stated Wednesday.

A report by the Don’t Buy into Occupation (DBIO), a Palestinian civil society group, confirmed that 776 European monetary establishments supported 51 corporations working within the development of unlawful Jewish settlements.

According to the report, between January 2020 and August 2023, the monetary establishments supplied $164.2 billion to the businesses working for unlawful Jewish settlements.

The high 10 establishments that made a significant contribution to the $116.55 billion embody BNP Paribas ($22.19 billion), HSBC ($14.21 billion), Deutsche Bank ($13.23 billion), Societe Generale ($12.4 billion), KfW ($11.29 billion), Barclays ($10.63 billion), Credit Agricole ($10.29 billion), Santander ($8.61 billion), ING Group ($7.05 billion) and UniCredit ($6.66 billion).

Antoine Madelin, an official with the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), a member of the DBIO, stated in a press release that European monetary establishments bear a fantastic duty for the intense violations dedicated within the occupied territories.

Madelin pressured that European monetary establishments should be sure that their actions don’t contribute to the perpetuation and growth of those settlements, that are unlawful below U.N. resolutions and worldwide humanitarian legislation.
