The head of the UN’s World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday expressed concern over current clashes between Syrian authorities forces and loyalists of ousted President Bashar Assad.
The clashes are “directly impacting people’s health, as health facilities and ambulances have been damaged,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus mentioned on X.
The WHO is working to supply emergency medicines and trauma provides for the injured, he added.
Tedros urged all events concerned to “respect and safeguard health services to ensure medical aid reaches those who need it most.”
In current days, the coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus have seen heightened safety tensions amid coordinated assaults by loyalists of the previous Assad regime. These assaults, described as essentially the most extreme because the regime’s fall in December, focused safety patrols, checkpoints, and hospitals, leading to deaths and accidents.
In response, safety and army forces launched sweeping operations to trace down the attackers. The operations have led to fierce clashes, as authorities officers assert that the scenario is transferring towards full stability.
Assad, Syria’s chief for practically 25 years, fled to Russia on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in energy since 1963.
Ahmad al-Sharaa, who led anti-regime forces to oust Assad, was declared president for a transitional interval on Jan. 29.
