Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart has been hit with a two-game suspension, whereas 4 different gamers from the Pistons and Timberwolves acquired one-game bans for his or her roles in an on-court altercation earlier this week, the NBA introduced Tuesday.

Citing Stewart’s “repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts,” the league handed him the harshest penalty. One-game suspensions have been issued to Detroit’s Ron Holland II and Marcus Sasser, together with Minnesota’s Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo.

All 5 have been ejected from Sunday’s sport, together with Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Timberwolves assistant Pablo Prigioni.

“Obviously, things went too far,” Bickerstaff said after the game. “But what you see is guys looking for each other, guys attempting to guard each other, guys attempting to have one another’s backs … Those are nonnegotiables in our locker room.”

The incident started when Holland fouled Reid with 8:36 left within the second quarter of the Timberwolves’ 123-104 victory over the Pistons in Minneapolis.

Reid confronted Holland, who then pushed DiVincenzo.

DiVincenzo shoved Holland, they usually tumbled into spectators seated alongside the baseline.

Stewart and Sasser then entered the altercation, “which resulted in a continued escalation of the state of affairs,” the league mentioned.

Reid and DiVincenzo will serve their one-game suspensions Tuesday when the Timberwolves go to Denver.

“I thought they did what they needed to do to protect themselves and their teammates. We’re not disappointed,” Minnesota coach Chris Finch said before the game against the Nuggets. “We’re upset, clearly, they’re not going to be with us tonight, but it surely’s a part of the panorama of the sport.

“The sport’s gotten a bit bit extra bodily, I feel, which all of us embrace. But quite a lot of groups are taking part in for lots of issues proper now, so there may all the time be a tipping level. It sort of occurs, and also you simply need to be conscious of it shifting ahead. But I’m not mad at them.”

Stewart will start serving his suspension Wednesday when the Pistons go to Oklahoma City. Holland and Sasser will even serve their suspensions in that sport.
