‘Nazis out’: German fans slam racism during moment of silence

Fans at a match in Essen, Germany, responded to a racist outburst with a unified chant condemning hatred.

The incident unfolded earlier than a match between Rot-Weiss Essen and VfB Stuttgart II within the third Bundesliga.

Prior to kickoff, a second of silence was noticed for the victims of the current assault on the Magdeburg Christmas market.

During this, a supporter shouted, “Germany belongs to the Germans.” The crowd’s response was swift and resolute, as followers collectively shouted, “Nazis out!” in protest.

The 57-year-old fan who made the racist remark was escorted from the stadium by police and banned from attending future matches. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Rot-Weiss Essen’s press spokesperson, Henrik Lerch, expressed assist for the gang’s response, calling it an acceptable and vital stand in opposition to racism.

The membership’s message was clear: such conduct wouldn’t be tolerated.
