Apple has to pay back up to €13bn in taxes, EU top court rules

The European Union‘s highest courtroom backed on Tuesday a European Commission ruling that Apple should pay €13 billion ($14.4 billion) in again taxes, annulling a earlier ruling in Apple’s favour.

In 2016, the European Commission ordered the multi-billion euro tax fee, arguing that the U.S. firm had underpaid taxes due within the bloc following a suspected sweetheart take care of EU member Ireland.

Apple filed a profitable criticism with the EU’s basic courtroom, arguing that the fee had did not show that the contested tax deal constituted prohibited state assist.

The basic courtroom had sided with Apple, promting the fee to name on the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to make a remaining ruling within the case.

The ECJ selected Tuesday that the fee was proper and that “Ireland granted Apple unlawful aid which Ireland is required to recover.”
