US tech large Nvidia launched a press release Monday criticizing newly launched Biden administration guidelines to regulates gross sales of synthetic intelligence (AI) chips to overseas nations in an effort to tighten Washington’s grip on AI chip flows the world over.
The “unprecedented and misguided” guidelines would jeopardize US management in AI applied sciences, the assertion mentioned.
“The first Trump administration laid the foundation for America’s current strength and success in AI, fostering an environment where US industry could compete and win on merit without compromising national security,” it added.
The firm highlighted the significance of AI applied sciences, saying that firms and universities world wide are tapping mainstream AI to advance well being care, agriculture, manufacturing, training and numerous different fields, driving financial development and unlocking the potential of countries.
But that progress is now in danger due to the Biden administration’s plans to limit entry to mainstream computing purposes with its unprecedented and misguided “AI diffusion” rule, which threatens to derail innovation and financial development worldwide, in accordance with the report.
“While cloaked within the guise of an ‘anti-China’ measure, these guidelines would do nothing to reinforce US safety.
“The new rules would control technology worldwide, including technology that is already widely available in mainstream gaming PCs and consumer hardware,” it added.
Every week earlier than Biden leaves workplace, his administration has applied extra limitations on the export of US-developed pc chips that drive AI methods with the AI diffusion rule, in a last-ditch try to hold rivals like China from getting access to the cutting-edge know-how.
Speaking to reporters Sunday, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo mentioned the brand new guidelines have been “designed to safeguard the most advanced AI technology and ensure that it stays out of the hands of our foreign adversaries but also enabling the broad diffusion and sharing of the benefits with partner countries.”
