Samsung workers plan 3-day strike over failed negotiations

A union representing tens of hundreds of employees at South Korean tech big Samsung Electronics advised Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday it will maintain a three-day strike later this month after negotiations failed.

“Starting from July 8, we will stage a three-day general strike,” Lee Hyun-kuk, vp of the National Samsung Electronics Union, advised AFP.

The union introduced the strike late Monday in a reside YouTube broadcast, with out offering the dates.

The transfer follows a one-day walkout in June, the primary such collective motion on the firm, which went a long time with out unionization.

Management on the firm, the world’s largest producer of reminiscence chips, has been locked in negotiations with the union since January.

In calling for the strike, the union mentioned that “management created this state” by failing to supply important concessions.

“What will change if we do not act. Will you just watch and do nothing? Will you be a hidden slave or an active owner? Nothing will change if we do not act,” its assertion mentioned.

“All employees need to participate in the strike. Let’s step up and change it!”

Samsung declined a request for remark.

Samsung Electronics averted its workers unionizing for nearly 50 years – generally adopting ferocious ways, in response to critics – whereas rising to turn into the world’s largest smartphone and semiconductor producer.
