Türkiye’s Fourth National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition arrived in Tromso, Norway to begin the expedition at 71 levels north latitude.
The group was organized underneath the auspices of the Turkish Presidency, Ministry of Industry and Technology and with the coordination of TUBITAK MAM Polar Research Institute.
The delegation consisting of 11 individuals will set off with the 62-meter (203 toes) Norwegian-flagged Polar Xplorer ship in Tromso and can perform sampling and research for 16 initiatives at 24 factors within the Arctic Ocean for about one month.
Scientists will examine the causes and results of world local weather change in areas the place fast outcomes have been noticed within the polar areas, with assessments and sampling, notably within the marine space.
Researchers may also be capable to observe the similarities or variations between the 2 polar areas by conducting marine sampling they performed within the Arctic Ocean through the Eight National Antarctic Science Expedition within the South Pole earlier this yr.
Studies might be carried out for air and ambiance, bodily sciences and life sciences, in addition to marine sciences.
Professor Burcu Ozsoy, coordinator of the Fourth National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition, spoke to Anadolu forward of the expedition.
“Every yr we improve our scientific research within the area with new initiatives.
“We have started to experience the 1.5-degree warming scenario of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. With the studies we will conduct, we will better understand what these effects are in the Arctic,” he stated.
Professor Ersan Basar, chief of the expedition, stated: “There are 16 marine science projects in our projects this year. There is also a Bulgarian and a Chilean scientist on our expedition.”
“After leaving Tromso by ship, we’ll full our expedition in Longyearbyen within the Svalbard archipelago and return to our nation by aircraft.
“During our expedition, many projects in the field of marine sciences are being carried out. After the data and samples related to these projects are collected, we will take them to laboratories and examine them,” he stated.
Underlining that Türkiye organizes scientific expeditions within the south pole of Antarctica and the Arctic within the north yearly, he underscored: “These initiatives are carried out with bilateral research. Scientists perform a few of their initiatives in each the Arctic and Antarctica on the identical time. This permits us to see the modifications within the polar area extra simply.
“Some of our research in space studies are also carried out in Antarctica at the same time. We carry out scientific projects in space, in the polar regions in the south and north,” he added.
Prior to the cruise, the scientific committee was given onboard coaching on the analysis vessel.
Stressing the significance of the coaching, Dogac Baybars İsiler, deputy chief of the expedition, stated: “On the ship, we offer sea survival coaching. Before the ship begins crusing, we count on all expedition contributors to be ready for the ship and sea situations and to grasp the security guidelines.
“In this context, immersion suit training has already been given. The main purpose here is to ensure that all expedition participants get a solid grasp of all safety rules and have the capacity to apply them in a possible situation,” stated İsiler.
