Turkish president remembers Bosnia-Herzegovinas 1st leader

The Turkish president on Thursday remembered Alija Izetbegovic, Bosnia-Herzegovina‘s first president who led the nation to independence from the previous Yugoslavia, on the twentieth anniversary of his dying.

“.. I remember with longing and mercy Alija Izetbegovic, the first President of our friend and brother country Bosnia and Herzegovina, a wise leader and an exceptional compassionate soul… with his nobility, courage and stance,” Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated on X.

Erdoğan stated Izetbegovic carried the complete Islamic world together with Bosnia in his coronary heart.

Often dubbed the “Wise King,” Izetbegovic is among the most vital Muslim thinkers of the final century.

The first president of Bosnia-Herzegovina managed to achieve independence for his nation on March 1, 1992, months after Slovenia and Croatia broke away from the previous Yugoslavia.

He died in Sarajevo on Oct. 19, 2003, as a result of pure causes, having served because the president of the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1992 to 1996 and as chairman of the Bosnian presidency till October 2000.
