Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Friday criticized French political leaders, saying a few of them had been making an attempt to be “more Armenian than the Armenians themselves.”

“However, they will also have to come to terms with this situation,” Aliyev informed a authorities assembly within the capital Baku associated to COP29.

Azerbaijan was introduced because the host of subsequent yr’s local weather summit after Armenia introduced it supported Azerbaijan’s bid by withdrawing its personal candidacy.

Indicating that sure Western international locations made baseless allegations in opposition to Azerbaijan after the anti-terrorism operation within the Karabakh area in September, Aliyev stated these accusations had “no basis whatsoever.”

He stated Azerbaijan “secured the supremacy of international law” by conducting the operation in opposition to separatists within the area, including that they restored sovereignty in keeping with humanitarian norms.

“Certain Western countries, traditionally including France, of course, are not going to put up with that. However, the international community already sees that even Armenia has come to terms with this situation, and the decision to hold the COP29 conference in Azerbaijan is further evidence of that,” he added.

Last week, Armenia and Azerbaijan stated they might change prisoners and work in direction of normalizing their relations, a breakthrough after three many years of battle over the occupation of Karabakh.

Aliyev had criticized France earlier for a deal to produce arms to Armenia.
