At least 12 migrants have died after their boat sank attempting to cross the English Channel, the French coastguard has mentioned.
The deaths have been confirmed after as much as 65 individuals have been rescued in a search operation off the coast of Cap Gris-Nez on Tuesday.
French inside minister Gerald Darmanin posted on X, previously Twitter: “Terrible shipwreck in Pas-de-Calais, off Wimereux.
“The provisional toll stands at 12 useless, two lacking and several other injured.
“All government services are mobilised to find the missing and take care of the victims. I go to the elected officials and the emergency services.”
