Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev simply cruised to victory on this week’s early presidential election, profitable 92.1% of the vote with all of the ballots counted, the nation’s Central Election Commission formally introduced on Friday.
The Wednesday vote was historic, because it marked the primary time it was held on all the territory of the southern Caucasus nation, together with the Karabakh area, which was liberated in 2020-2023 from some 30 years of Armenian occupation.
The liberation of Karabakh led to an enormous spike of Aliyev’s recognition in Azerbaijan.
More than 6,500 polling stations, together with overseas, labored from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. native time (0400-1500GMT).
About 800 international and 90,000 native observers from numerous worldwide organizations and nations, in addition to the native press, and about 200 international journalists had been monitoring the elections.
