Belize has filed a declaration that it’ll be a part of South Africa‘s genocide case in opposition to Israel on the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the court docket introduced on Friday.

“On 30 January 2025, Belize, referring to Articles 62 and 63 of the Statute, filed in the Registry of the Court a document containing an application for permission to intervene and a declaration of intervention in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip,” the court docket stated in an announcement.

In December 2023, South Africa instituted proceedings in opposition to Israel, claiming violations of the Genocide Convention in relation to Palestinians within the Gaza Strip. Several nations have since joined the case, together with Nicaragua, Colombia, Cuba, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Türkiye.

Israel’s genocidal warfare has killed greater than 47,400 Palestinians, most of them ladies and kids, and injured greater than 111,000 since Oct. 7, 2023.

The Israeli onslaught on Gaza has left greater than 11,000 individuals lacking, with widespread destruction and a humanitarian disaster that has claimed the lives of many aged individuals and kids in one of many worst international humanitarian disasters ever.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants in November final 12 months for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for warfare crimes and crimes in opposition to humanity in Gaza.
