CIA chief to meet officials from Israel, Qatar, and Egypt in Rome for Gaza cease-fire talks

CIA Director William Burns will meet with senior officers from Israel, Qatar, and Egypt within the Italian capital of Rome on Sunday, based on a report on Friday.

The assembly goals to advance negotiations, resolve remaining variations, and pave the best way for a closing cease-fire settlement in Gaza, mentioned the Axios news web site, citing nameless U.S. and Israeli officers.

Burns will meet with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, Mossad Director David Barnea, and Egyptian spy chief Abbas Kamel, the report mentioned.

No official sources confirmed or denied the report as of Friday afternoon.

Israeli negotiators are reportedly not looking forward to a breakthrough in Rome, citing U.S. President Joe Biden’s strain on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as ineffective in softening Netanyahu’s new powerful calls for.

“Netanyahu wants a deal that is impossible to get,” an Israeli official advised Axios.

Netanyahu is on a visit to the U.S. and reportedly mentioned his new calls for with Biden on Thursday.

On Thursday, Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome.

Egypt and Qatar have been main mediation efforts, working to dealer a phased cease-fire proposal involving Hamas to launch hostages in change for an Israeli troop withdrawal.
