Crimeas status still ‘point of contention’ between Moscow, Ankara, says Kremlin

The standing of Crimea stays a degree of rivalry between Moscow and Ankara, however Russia is making each effort to steer its Turkish counterparts of its place, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned on Friday.

During a press convention in Moscow, Peskov was requested to touch upon current statements made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan about Crimea, the Kremlin spokesman mentioned: “This topic belongs to the category of disagreements that exist between us and our Turkish friends.”

Despite this, Peskov emphasised Russia’s ongoing efforts to make clear its stance to Ankara: “We continue to explain our perspective to our Turkish colleagues and friends, and we remain committed to these efforts.”

He added that, whereas Russia hopes Ankara will get a greater understanding of its place over time, the 2 international locations’ relationship is growing.

“We believe that this will eventually lead to greater alignment, with Türkiye accepting our reasoning. Meanwhile, we continue to strengthen our relationship with Türkiye,” he mentioned.
