Cuba has filed a declaration that it’ll be part of South Africa‘s genocide case in opposition to Israel on the International Court of Justice, the courtroom introduced on Monday.

“Cuba, invoking Article 63 of the Statute of the Court, filed in the Registry of the Court a declaration of intervention in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip,” the courtroom stated in an announcement.

In December 2023, South Africa instituted proceedings in opposition to Israel, claiming violations of the Genocide Convention in relation to Palestinians within the Gaza Strip. Several nations have since joined the case, together with Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Türkiye.

Israel has continued its brutal offensive on Gaza since a Hamas assault in October 2023 regardless of a UN Security Council decision demanding a direct cease-fire.

Nearly 46,600 folks, most of them girls and youngsters, have since been killed and over 105,000 injured, in line with native well being authorities.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced virtually the complete inhabitants of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to extreme shortages of meals, clear water, and drugs, leaving a lot of the strip an uninhabitable wasteland.
