EU’s Borrell calls for pressure on Israel over planned Rafah ops

EU international coverage chief Josep Borrell stated Monday that Israel needs to be pressed to not assault the southern Gazan metropolis of Rafah the place 1.7 million Palestinians are stranded with nowhere else to go.

Speaking at a gathering of EU improvement ministers in Brussels, Borrell additionally stated that the U.N. company for Palestinians UNRWA wants to have the ability to proceed its work whereas allegations that 12 of its 13,000 employees in Gaza had been concerned within the Oct. 7 Hamas incursion on Israel are investigated.

“Nobody else can do what UNRWA is doing, allegations need to be verified … let’s wait for the investigations to take place,” Borrell stated.

“In the meantime, people have to continue to eat, have to continue going to the doctors,” he added.
