French army authorities have confirmed that fifty Ukrainian troopers abandoned whereas present process coaching in France, elevating questions on self-discipline and cohesion inside the “Anne de Kiev” brigade.
Although the desertions occurred in France, officers described them as “marginal” in relation to the general variety of trainees, in accordance with a latest report by Le Soir.
A French army spokesperson acknowledged that below French regulation, disciplinary issues fall below the jurisdiction of Ukrainian officers, limiting France’s means to intervene in such circumstances.
The French Ministry of the Armed Forces harassed that the coaching supplied met Ukraine’s operational wants and was not linked to any plans for disbandment or reassignment of the brigade. It has requested clarification from Ukrainian authorities relating to the incidents.
The Anne de Kiev brigade, named after a historic queen of France of Ukrainian origin, is a part of a French-led initiative to arrange Ukrainian forces for front-line deployment. Out of the brigade’s 4,500 troops, roughly 2,000, together with 300 officers, acquired coaching in France. Most of the trainees had been new conscripts with no prior fight expertise.
Reports of desertions surfaced alongside allegations of broader dysfunction inside the brigade. Ukrainian journalist Yuri Butusov claimed that as much as 1,700 troopers from the unit had abandoned, together with 50 who left throughout coaching in France.
Butusov described the brigade’s formation as marred by “organizational chaos,” asserting that troopers had been being reassigned to fill gaps in different models.
In response, Commander of Ukrainian Ground Forces Mykhailo Drapaty acknowledged “issues” within the brigade’s management and coaching however downplayed the size of desertions inside the Anne de Kiev brigade, calling them “minimal.”
Drapaty added that efforts had been underway to deal with the management and organizational challenges.
