Hungary on Friday accused Ukraine of blackmailing it by stopping Russian oil from transiting by means of its territory.

In a press convention in Budapest, Gergely Gulyas, head of the Office of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, mentioned Ukraine is blackmailing Hungary and Slovakia that “advocate peace and a cease-fire.”

Earlier on Monday, Hungary and Slovakia collectively initiated a European Union session process towards Ukraine in response to Kyiv’s resolution to halt Russian oil firm Lukoil’s crude oil transits.

Gulyas mentioned this posed a critical hazard to the power safety of Hungary and Slovakia.

According to Gulyas, “a solution must be found by September,” or else “Hungary will begin to experience an oil shortage.

“One is that Ukrainians admit they can’t do this to two EU countries… Another is that the European Commission helps us, and the third is that we find a legal loophole that allows the oil to be transferred by someone not affected by the sanctions,” he defined.

However, he assured the general public that there isn’t any want to fret as a result of Hungarian oil reserves are plentiful.

Earlier final week, Slovakia and Hungary mentioned they’d stopped receiving oil from key provider Lukoil after Ukraine imposed a ban final month on the transit of assets from the Russian power firm by means of its territory.

Hungary receives 2 million metric tons of oil from the Russian group annually, accounting for roughly a 3rd of its whole oil imports.

Separately, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico mentioned his nation won’t be a “hostage” in Ukraine-Russia relations.

Despite EU sanctions towards Russia, landlocked Hungary and Slovakia proceed to obtain pure gasoline and oil by means of Ukraine.
