Rejecting the ruling Georgian Dream Party‘s victory in Oct. 26 parliamentary elections, opposition protesters within the Caucasus nation on Sunday blocked a significant avenue within the capital Tbilisi and arrange tents.
Accusing the federal government of election fraud, the protesters demanded a rerun of the elections.
While demonstrations continued outdoors the parliament constructing, leaders and supporters of the Coalition for Change opposition bloc introduced a 24-hour occupation of Ilia Chavchavadze Street.
Coalition chief Nika Gvaramia stated they might broaden such peaceable protests throughout Tbilisi.
ELECTION CONTROVERSY IN GEORGIA
Georgian Dream secured 53.93% of the vote, claiming 89 seats within the 150-member parliament, in accordance with official figures printed Saturday.
Opposition events, together with President Salome Zourabichvili, rejected the end result, alleging fraud.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze defended the election as democratic and introduced that parliament would convene on Nov. 25 regardless of protests.
