There has been a surge within the assaults by Israeli extremists towards Christians within the occupied East Jerusalem, a Palestinian bishop stated Monday.
“There are rising assaults towards Christians and Christian holy websites by Israeli extremists,” Bishop Emeritus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Munib Younan, instructed Anadolu Agency (AA) Monday.
He stated the Israeli authorities is just not critical about bringing these behind the assaults to accountability.
“If the perpetrators are not held accountable, they will continue their attacks,” he warned. “But if one individual is punished, this will probably be a deterrent.”
Israeli police arrested two Jewish settlers on Sunday for spitting on a Christian clergyman in occupied East Jerusalem.
A video revealed by Israeli media confirmed two settlers spitting on and cursing a Christian abbot in Jerusalem’s Old City.
The two settlers had been positioned below home arrest pending investigation, the police stated in a press release.
“The house arrest is not a deterrence,” the bishop stated, including that Israeli police don’t react to assaults towards Christian clergymen.
“The persevering with assaults are a sign of the incitement happening in Jewish non secular faculties,” he added.
In latest years, there was a rise in Israeli assaults towards Christian clergy in Jerusalem, whether or not by settlers who usually spit on monks and verbally assault them or by the police themselves, who’ve been concerned in a number of incidents of bodily assaulting them.
