The Kremlin has insisted that the EU’s deliberate 18th bundle of sanctions is not going to result in an finish to Russia‘s struggle of aggression towards Ukraine.

“Only logic and reasoned arguments can bring Russia to the negotiating table,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed Russian state tv on Sunday.

“It is impossible to force Russia through any kind of pressure or violence,” he stated.

Peskov expressed his conviction that the brand new bundle of sanctions sought by the EU will in the end be adopted regardless of opposition from Slovakia. However, he stated that the harder the punitive measures, the stronger the backlash towards them can be.

Sanctions, Peskov stated, are a “double-edged sword.” Moscow usually claims that the EU itself will undergo much more from the sanctions, for instance, by foregoing Russian uncooked supplies and power.

Last Friday, the adoption of the EU’s 18th bundle of sanctions initially failed as a consequence of resistance from Slovakia. A brand new vote has been postponed indefinitely.

Russia considers the sanctions unlawful, in accordance with Peskov. “Obviously, after almost four years, we have developed a certain resistance. And we have already learned how to minimize the impact of such packages,” he stated.

The EU sanctions are primarily directed towards the Russian financial system and purpose to deprive the nation of the monetary means to proceed its struggle towards Ukraine.
