Ukraine introduced Monday that it had requested the U.N. and the Red Cross to help with humanitarian efforts in Russia’s Kursk area following a cross-border incursion by Ukrainian forces.
Kyiv’s navy stays within the Kursk area greater than a month after launching the assault, by which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Kyiv has taken management of about 100 settlements. Russia’s Defense Ministry stated Monday its forces had regained management of two extra villages.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated he had instructed his ministry to ask the U.N. and ICRC to work within the Kursk area Sunday. The ministry confirmed that it had issued the requests.
“Ukraine is ready to facilitate their work and prove its adherence to international humanitarian law,” Sybiha stated on X after visiting the Sumy area, from the place Ukrainian forces launched the cross-borer assault.
He stated the Ukrainian military was guaranteeing humanitarian help and secure passage to civilians within the Kursk area.
The Foreign Ministry stated the invites had been despatched to the ICRC and U.N., “taking into account the humanitarian situation and the need to properly ensure basic human rights in the territory of the Kursk region.”
It stated it had requested the ICRC to observe Ukraine’s compliance with the ideas of worldwide humanitarian regulation.
