President Emmanuel Macron on Friday recognised that Larbi Ben M’hidi, a key determine in Algeria’s War of Independence towards France, had been killed by French troopers after his arrest in 1957, the French presidency stated.

“He recognised today that Larbi Ben M’hidi, a national hero for Algeria… was killed by French soldiers,” the presidency stated on the seventieth anniversary of the revolt that sparked the conflict, in a brand new gesture of reconciliation by Macron in the direction of the previous colony.
