NATO members Lithuania and 5 others close to the border with Russia agreed to place up a “drone wall” for protection towards provocations, a high official stated Friday.
The plan to make use of unmanned aerial autos for cover was agreed upon due to safety considerations within the area amid Russia’s warfare in Ukraine.
Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite introduced the plan after talks along with her counterparts from fellow Baltic states Estonia and Latvia, in addition to Finland, Norway and Poland.
“This is a completely new thing, a drone wall stretching from Norway to Poland, and the goal is to use drones and other technologies to protect our borders,” she instructed the BNS news company.
“Not only with physical infrastructure, surveillance systems but also with drones and other technologies, which would allow us to protect against provocations from unfriendly countries and to prevent smuggling,” she stated.
In addition to deploying drones to observe the border, the nations would additionally use anti-drone programs to cease enemy UAVs.
Bilotaite didn’t give a timeframe for the plan.
