The Palestinian Authority mentioned late Wednesday it ordered the suspension of broadcasts by the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera tv community throughout the Palestinian territories, the official news company mentioned.
“The specialised ministerial committee, comprising the ministries of culture, interior and communications, has decided to suspend broadcasts and freeze all activities of Al Jazeera satellite channel and its office in Palestine,” the Wafa news company mentioned.
“The committee also ordered the temporary suspension of work by all journalists, staff, and associated channels affiliated with Al Jazeera. The decision will remain in effect until the network resolves its legal status, which was deemed in violation of applicable laws and regulations in Palestine,” it added.
Authorities accused the community of broadcasting “inciteful content, spreading misinformation, and interfering in internal Palestinian affairs,” which they claimed stirred division and instability.
The ministerial committee emphasised that the suspension is short-term and can stay in impact till Al-Jazeera “complies fully with Palestinian laws and regulations.”
The transfer follows a sequence of public campaigns by Palestinian Authority officers and affiliated teams on social media, criticizing Al-Jazeera’s protection of latest clashes between Palestinian safety forces and resistance teams within the Jenin refugee camp.
Last week, Al-Jazeera condemned what it known as an “incitement campaign” towards its journalists, significantly correspondent Mohammed al-Atrash.
In a press release, the community emphasised that its protection of Jenin’s occasions was balanced, with platforms for each resistance voices and Palestinian safety forces.
An Al-Jazeera worker contacted by Agence France-Presse (AFP) confirmed that the community’s workplace in Ramallah had acquired a suspension order on Wednesday.
The Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority’s resolution comes greater than three months after Israeli forces raided the community’s workplace in Ramallah.
The community is already banned from broadcasting from Israel amid a long-running feud with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s authorities, which has solely worsened throughout the ongoing warfare in Gaza.
