Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to name Israeli and Arab leaders on Monday, his adviser mentioned, amid Russian fears Israel’s Gaza offensive might set off wider battle within the area.

Russia has repeatedly referred to as for talks on ending the battle, which has strained relations with long-time accomplice Israel and complex ties with Iran, which backs Hamas.

“The president has already spoken to the president of Syria and the president of Iran,” Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov was quoted as saying by the Interfax news company.

“During the day there will be more phone calls with the presidents of Egypt — Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Palestine — Mahmud Abbas, as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,” Ushakov mentioned.

Fears for Palestinians trapped within the closely bombarded Gaza enclave have grown since Israel ready to launch a floor offensive.
