Russia on Wednesday added former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov to the listing of “terrorists and extremists.”
His title was added to the listing of “terrorists and extremists” on the web site of the Financial Monitoring Service of the Russian Federation (Rosfinmonitoring).
Kasparov, a Russian citizen whose father is Jewish and whose mom is Armenian, turned the world champion in chess in 1985-2000.
Kasparov, who ended his chess profession in 2005, was concerned in political opposition actions in opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He began residing overseas after and acquired Croatian citizenship in 2014.
Criticizing Putin firstly of the Ukrainian battle, he referred to as for “military support of Ukraine against Russia.”
Kasparov was added to the “foreign agents” listing in Russia on May 20, 2022.
