A Russian aeroplane of unknown sort has crashed into the ocean close to Sevastopol on the Russian-occupied Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, Crimea’s Russian-appointed Governor Mikhail Rasvoshaev mentioned on Telegram on Thursday.
The pilot saved himself by parachute and landed within the water round 200 metres from the coast and was picked up unhurt by a lifeboat shortly afterwards, Rasvoshaev mentioned. He didn’t give particulars concerning the reason for the crash.
Ukrainian media speculated that the aircraft might have been shot down by Russian air defence by mistake. The UNIAN news company printed an image of a crashing, burning plane. The authenticity of the picture couldn’t be independently verified.
