Outgoing NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg formally turned the brand new head of the Munich Security Conference on Tuesday.

He is predicted to take over from the present director, Christoph Heusgen, after the following convention in February.

The appointment was broadly reported a couple of weeks in the past and has now been formally confirmed.

“I have dedicated my entire political life to maintaining peace. It is a great honor for me to serve as Chairman of the Munich Security Conference and make a contribution to its mission ‘peace through dialogue,'” Stoltenberg stated in a press release.

He leaves his submit as NATO chief in October after 10 years within the position, throughout which he was an everyday visitor on the convention. He might be changed by former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

The Munich Security Conference was based in 1963. Every February, heads of state and prime ministers, ministers, army consultants and representatives of the arms business collect within the Bavarian capital in southern Germany to debate safety coverage points.

“With his worldwide reputation and immense experience, Jens will lead the conference into an even more important and global role,” stated Wolfgang Ischinger, the president of the physique’s Foundation Council.
