Türkiye seeks extradition of teen, mother who fled to U.S. after deadly car crash

Türkiye requested extradition of teenager T.C. and his mom Eylem Tok who fled to the United States after a deadly street accident in Istanbul, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç mentioned on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old unlicensed driver has been recognized by Turkish officers solely by his initials, T.C., as a result of he’s a minor.

Turkish media reported that the automobile crash in northern Istanbul killed one individual and injured 4 others on March 1. Some Turkish media have reported that the boy has U.S. twin citizenship, which Turkish authorities haven’t confirmed.

The teenager, who was charged with inflicting loss of life by means of negligence, and his mom, who was charged with aiding a legal, flew first to Egypt after which to the United States after the accident, Justice Minister Tunç informed reporters.

Türkiye formally requested for the extradition of the 2 from the United States on March 7 by means of diplomatic channels and Interpol, Tunç mentioned, including that U.S. Justice Department had requested for added paperwork from Türkiye on Tuesday.

“We have completed these documents. We’re following the process closely. We hope the U.S. administration will respond positively,” he mentioned.
