The Pentagon on Monday slammed China‘s “irresponsible” army drills close to Taiwan, saying that the U.S. “closely” monitored the train.
“This military pressure operation is irresponsible, disproportionate, and destabilizing,” spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder stated in a written assertion.
His remarks got here after the Chinese army stated its Joint Sword-2024B drills occurred on Monday within the Taiwan Strait and areas to the north, south, and east of the self-ruled island.
“Deterrence remains strong in the Indo-Pacific, and the Department remains confident in its current force posture and operations in the region,” stated Ryder.
“The entire world has a stake in peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and we continue to see a growing community of countries committed to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”
The U.S. will proceed to work with allies and companions to advance its shared imaginative and prescient for a “free and open” Indo-Pacific, regardless of China’s “destabilizing behavior,” he added.
Beijing considers Taiwan “an inseparable part of Chinese territory” and has repeatedly urged different nations to chorus from actions that might ship a flawed sign to “separatist forces” looking for independence.
The drills come 4 days after Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te stated in a speech that China has no proper to signify Taiwan and declared his dedication to “resist annexation.”
