Ukraines Navy says it destroyed Russian ferry in attack

Ukraine’s Navy confirmed on Friday that it had destroyed a ferry within the Russian port of Kavkaz that was used to ship gas and weapons to occupied Crimea.

Local authorities had earlier stated the ferry was set ablaze and broken in Thursday’s assault on the port in Russia’s southern Krasnodar area.

“Another undoubtedly military objective has been destroyed. Its purpose was to provide fuel for the invaders. The ferry sank and this port (Kavkaz) is not usable until the ferry is removed,” Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk advised Ukrainian tv.

“It was the ferries that accounted for three quarters of all logistics and were the main channel (of supply),” he added.

The ferry was carrying 30 gas tanks, stated Fyodor Babenkov, district head of the city of Temryuk which incorporates the port. He stated it sustained important harm on account of the assault, Kyiv’s newest strike on Russian territory as Moscow’s struggle in Ukraine grinds on.

The port of Kavkaz is certainly one of Russia’s largest retailers on the Black Sea. It handles ships each for exports and for gas provides to Crimea, seized by Russian forces in 2014.
