US expresses concern about Israeli attacks on Syria’s capital

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday expressed concern over Israel’s strike on Syria’s military headquarters, saying the violence hampers efforts to stabilize the war-torn nation.

“We’re talking to both sides, all the relevant sides, on this and hopefully we can bring it to a conclusion, but we’re very concerned,” Rubio stated when requested by a reporter in regards to the Israeli strikes.

In fuller feedback afterward, Rubio didn’t immediately reference Israel however spoke of the clashes within the majority-Druze metropolis of Suwayda that Israel cited for its intervention.

“We are very worried about the violence in southern Syria. It is a direct threat to efforts to help build a peaceful and stable Syria,” Rubio stated in a press release.

“We have been and remain in repeated and constant talks with the governments of Syria and Israel on this matter.”

President Donald Trump has staunchly backed Israel, together with in its navy campaigns in Gaza and Iran.

But Trump has been prioritizing diplomacy with Syria’s new management, seeing a gap after anti-regime-led forces toppled longtime dictator Bashar Assad in December.
