Mexico confirms first human case of screwworm myiasis

Mexico’s Health Ministry confirmed the nation’s first human case of myiasis brought on by screwworm, the federal government mentioned on Friday.

The case was detected in a 77-year-old lady from the municipality of Acacoyagua, within the southern state of Chiapas. She is in secure situation and receiving antibiotic remedy, authorities mentioned.

Myiasis is a parasitic an infection that happens when fly larvae infest open wounds, feeding on residing tissue.
