2 men found guilty in plot to assassinate US-Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad in New York

A federal jury in New York Thursday convicted two males of plotting to assassinate Iranian American journalist Masih Alinejad at her house in New York City, in response to CBS News.

Rafat Amirov and Polad Omarov, each alleged members of a Russian mob, had been discovered responsible of murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit cash laundering, and firearms offenses.

Amirov and Omarov face many years in jail, with sentencing scheduled for September.

During closing arguments, prosecutors informed jurors that Alinejad has been the topic of a number of plots by Iran, together with kidnapping, and that the Iranian authorities positioned a $500,000 bounty on her head to silence her.

Alinejad expressed aid following the decision however emphasised that justice stays incomplete.

“I am relieved that after nearly three years, the men who plotted to kill me have been found guilty,” Alinejad stated exterior courtroom. “But make no mistake, the real masterminds of this crime are still in power in Iran. I am waiting for the day when Ali Khamenei and his terrorist Revolutionary Guards face justice, I want them to be punished.”

And I will keep fighting until every criminal in that regime faces their reckoning,” Alinejad added.
