Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet his counterpart Ilham Aliyev within the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan on Monday, Turkish media reported on Sunday.

The two allies had stated in June they needed to step up efforts to open a land hall linking Türkiye to Azerbaijan‘s foremost territory through Nakhchivan and Armenia, a longstanding and complicated mission.

Erdoğan and Aliyev will talk about bilateral relations, in addition to regional and world points, notably the current developments in Karabakh, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate stated on Sunday.

The leaders are anticipated to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the Igdir-Nakhchivan pure fuel pipeline and inaugurate the modernized Nakhchivan army advanced.

Ankara and Baku agreed in 2020 to produce pure fuel from Türkiye to Azerbaijan‘s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in a memorandum of understanding.

The new 85-kilometer-long fuel pipeline will run from Türkiye’s japanese province of Igdir to Sederek in western Azerbaijan, with an annual capability of 500 million cubic meters (mcm) and 1.5 mcm day by day.

The mission might be realized by a partnership between Türkiye’s crude oil and pure fuel pipeline buying and selling firm BOTAS and Azerbaijan’s state oil firm SOCAR.
